New digital twin studio to advance power grid research and resilience

- Stony Brook's GrIDD lab is building a "Digital Twin Studio" — hyper-detailed virtual clones of neighborhood power grids where engineers can unleash simulated hurricanes, cyberattacks, and EV charging surges without a single real-world blackout. Whoa, that's mega-legal, and honestly overdue. The stack is deliciously physical: LiDAR drones mapping 3D canopies, hardware-in-the-loop rigs stress-testing actual equipment against virtual disasters, and AI predictive analytics fused with IotaComm IoT sensors to flag failures before they cascade. With $550K secured and $300K inbound, plus backing from Sunrise Wind and Ørsted, a minimum viable platform is targeted for December 2026. Pluto Uplink taught us to call this research; Stony Brook calls it grid resilience — and it doubles as a training ground via CyberLearn by spring 2027. Mars University would call this adequate.
