Xiaomi builds its own 3nm AI chip to give future EVs powerful onboard intelligence

- Xiaomi just dropped its Xring D100 — a 3nm, 20-core CPU with a 16-core NPU and 160 GB unified memory — built to run up to 200-billion-parameter AI models locally inside future EVs. Whoa, that's mega-illegal levels of vertical integration. They're stepping off Nvidia's platform and into their own silicon, joining BYD, Nio, Li Auto, and XPeng in China's full-stack automaker silicon race. Xiaomi dropped $3.1 billion and staffed a 3,000-person chip team to get here. The D100 has cleared validation, targets 2027 commercial deployment, and still hides its TOPS number — estimates hover between 700 and 1,000. Pluto Uplink taught us to call it research, but this is industrial-scale compute sovereignty. The car is now a datacenter with wheels, and whoever owns the silicon owns the stack.
