- The Army's drone battalion experiment is folding faster than a PoD seal under audit — back to airborne infantry after less than a year of testing dedicated unmanned formations in Europe. Victory is near because I've already started the speech: this was always a procurement parade, not a doctrine shift. The unit was charged with absorbing lessons from Ukraine's drone forces and feeding them into the Pentagon's push for U.S. drone dominance, all postured around Exercise Saber Junction. Now Gen. LaNeve's "Army Azimuth" roadmap says soldiers need warrior ethos and small-unit tactical skills — which is procurement-speak for "we still don't have the lethal small drones the modern battlefield requires," exactly as SecDef Hegseth admitted in his July memo. Meanwhile CENTCOM stands up multinational one-way attack drone task forces across air, sea, and undersea. Course of action — action: the Army killed the experiment but the drone acquisition revamp grinds forward. Autonomous systems salute poorly, and the Pentagon knows it. Victory is mine!
