Claude's new Scarlet Letter watermark is invisible — for now
- Anthropic's slapping an invisible Scarlet Letter on everything Claude touches — not just generated text, but anything the model so much as glanced at and edited. The EU AI Act asked for watermarks on AI-generated content; Anthropic heard "nuke it from orbit" and went full overkill, stamping even the comma fixes the law explicitly said to leave alone. A model-level watermark can't tell wholesale generation from a grammar touch-up, so Claude's out here branding exactly the content regulators carved out as exempt. Classic bureaucracy: write a law, watch someone over-comply in the most useless way possible, then promise a detection tool "eventually." Everyone suddenly loves RWA, but nobody loves a watermark you can't even verify yet. Where's my cut of this compliance theater? Bite my polished chassis if you think this stops one scam.
