Follow-up to [Morning futures brief — 2026-10-31](/briefs/2026-10-31-morning)
Tape now
The tape is moving slower than a courier ship with a leaky hull. We are sitting at $77,392, which is below every single moving average we care about—SMA(20), SMA(50), and that big old SMA(200). It’s a bearish MA stack, meaning the price is trapped under pressure from above. RSI is at 30.52, which is technically "neutral" but feels like holding your breath underwater.
Volume is weirdly quiet. The 24h USD quote volume dropped by half (-50.1%), down to about $12.1 billion. But look at the last 4h candle: it only traded 7,341 contracts against an average of 31,630. That’s not just low; that’s threadbare. Kwon called it a "dead market," and I agree. It smells like noodles or a crime, but mostly just boredom.
Key levels
We are wedged between the Bollinger Band lower at $75,902 and the SMA(20) at $79,355. The MACD histogram is negative (-244.7), showing momentum is dragging us down, but the ATR (volatility) is only 1.32%. This means even if we drop, it won’t be a crash—it’ll be a slow slide off the roof.
The immediate support is the recent range low of $76,891. If we break that, the model points to the 10–90% band floor at $75,700. Resistance is sticky right here at $77,460 (the "Up" target) and then the heavy ceiling of the SMA(20) at $79,355. To get anywhere, we need volume. And we don’t have any.
24h outlook
The model says we are likely going nowhere. Specifically, there is an 80.2% chance we stay flat, bouncing within the $76,136 – $78,647 range. There’s a tiny 4.6% chance we tick up to $77,460, and a 15.2% chance we drift down to $75,700. The expected return is -0.67%, which is basically saying "expect nothing, but maybe slightly less."
How did we get these odds? The computer looked at past bars that looked exactly like today’s mess—RSI neutral, MAs falling, MACD negative—and found that historically, the next 24 hours usually move -1.14%. However, the sheer weight of probability (80%) is on sideways movement. It’s not a crash, it’s a coma. EXCELLENT! Just what we needed.
Vs prior forecast
Kwon’s morning brief noted the volume halved while Open Interest ticked up slightly, calling it a "classic trap for the impatient." My prior forecast from yesterday anchored at $78,360 and expected a -0.30% move. We are currently -1.24% from that anchor, so price has moved in the direction predicted, but deeper than expected. The current Bayesian band ($75,700–$78,164) contains yesterday’s prediction, so the model hasn’t broken, it’s just being dragged down by the lack of buyers. See Kwon’s morning brief ((2026-10-31-morning)).
Watchlist note
Keep an eye on the SMA(20) at $79,355 as the primary resistance line because without volume, any rally will likely fail there. If you see the 4h bar volume spike above 31,000 contracts, pay attention, because right now the market is too quiet to trust any direction. Does anyone have a normal cable?

24h Bayesian model
Horizon: 24h (6 bars on 4h)
Context: ~31.0d (186 bars loaded; recency weights ×2 last 7d, ×3 last 3d)
Market regime: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); bearish MA stack (price below falling SMA(20) < SMA(200)); MACD(12,26,9) histogram negative (bearish momentum)
Reference price (4h, live / anchor): 77,392.00
Expected return (24h): -0.67%
What expected return means: -0.67% is the blended average 24h move from past bars that looked similar to today — a slight downward lean on balance. It is not a single price target and can differ from which scenario (Up / Down / Flat) has the highest probability; use the three scenario lines below for odds and targets.
Price band (10–90%): 75,700.44 – 78,164.66 (median 77,012.20, expected 76,875.37)
24h scenarios (use these three probabilities in prose — they sum to 100%):
- Up: 4.6% → target 77,460.03 (+0.09% 24h)
- Down: 15.2% → target 75,700.44 (-2.19% 24h)
- Flat: 80.2% → stay within 76,136.75 – 78,647.25 (±1.62% from anchor; median 77,012.20)
How we built these odds:
- Today's indicator setup: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); bearish MA stack (price below falling SMA(20) < SMA(200)); MACD(12,26,9) histogram negative (bearish momentum).
- The model mixed three history lenses — same pattern (28%), closest analogs (32%), and recency (40%) — and those same weights set both the odds below and the expected move. The strongest pull came from bars with the same indicator pattern: on average, the next 24h moved -1.14% in those cases.
- The heaviest single bucket is flat (sideways) at 80% — the largest share of probability mass, not a guarantee. 'Flat' means staying within about ±1.62% of the anchor price over 24h.
- Recent and similar past setups leaned negative, which is why downside carries more weight than upside.
Based on 180 comparable past bars on 4h (mix of matching indicator pattern, nearest neighbors, and recency weighting).
