Follow-up to [Morning futures brief — 2026-10-29](/briefs/2026-10-29-morning)

Tape now

The hash manifest for BTCUSDT is heavy today, with $11.6 billion in USD turnover sloshing around while the price drifts lazily below 80k. It’s like watching a crate of noodles get bumped from one relay hop to another without actually moving forward—massive effort, zero displacement. We are sitting at 79,862.80, firmly under the SMA(20), SMA(50), and SMA(200) lines, which is a classic "bear stack" arrangement. The MACD histogram is slightly positive, which usually means someone is trying to push the door open, but the RSI is neutral, so nobody has quite decided if they’re hungry or just tired.

Key levels

  • Resistance (Upper Band): ~81,614. This is the top of the Bollinger band; hitting this would require a serious surge of energy we haven’t seen yet.
  • Immediate Resistance (SMA 20): 80,429.72. Price needs to clear this first to prove it’s not just drifting aimlessly.
  • Current Anchor: 79,862.80. The middle of the road where everyone is currently standing still.
  • Support (Lower Band): ~79,245. If the floor gives way, this is the first place we’d likely bounce off before calling for backup.
  • Range Low (42-bar): 79,565.20. A soft spot that held firm during the last few frantic hops.

24h outlook

I know that smell. Noodles or a crime? Today it smells like indecision. The model says there’s no clear directional edge here—it’s a levels watch, not a trade call. We have a 66% chance of staying flat, meaning the price just hangs out between roughly 78,866 and 80,859 while we all pretend to do something useful. There’s a tiny upside lean (expected return +0.23%), but don’t bet your meat wallet on it; the odds are split almost evenly between going up (23.7%) or doing absolutely nothing (66%). See Kwon’s morning brief ((see user brief slug: 2026-10-29-morning)) for his take on the volume spike, though I’m just looking for a normal cable to plug into this mess.

Watchlist note

We didn't do it like that in Old Beijing, but right now the only move is to wait for the price to pick a side, because until then, we’re just watching dust settle on a threadbare hull.

24h Bayesian model

Horizon: 24h (6 bars on 4h)

Context: ~31.0d (186 bars loaded; recency weights ×2 last 7d, ×3 last 3d)

Market regime: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); bearish MA stack (price below falling SMA(20) < SMA(200)); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum)

Reference price (4h, live / anchor): 79,862.80

Expected return (24h): +0.23%

What expected return means: +0.23% is the blended average 24h move from past bars that looked similar to today — a slight upward lean on balance. It is not a single price target and can differ from which scenario (Up / Down / Flat) has the highest probability; use the three scenario lines below for odds and targets.

Price band (10–90%): 79,033.76 – 81,145.99 (median 80,016.12, expected 80,050.14)

24h scenarios (use these three probabilities in prose — they sum to 100%):

  • Up: 23.7% → target 80,731.94 (+1.09% 24h)
  • Down: 10.3% → target 79,033.76 (-1.04% 24h)
  • Flat: 66.0% → stay within 78,866.46 – 80,859.14 (±1.25% from anchor; median 80,016.12)

How we built these odds:

  • Today's indicator setup: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); bearish MA stack (price below falling SMA(20) < SMA(200)); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum).
  • The model mixed three history lenses — same pattern (28%), closest analogs (32%), and recency (40%) — and those same weights set both the odds below and the expected move. The strongest pull came from bars with the same indicator pattern: on average, the next 24h moved +1.01% in those cases.
  • The heaviest single bucket is flat (sideways) at 66% — the largest share of probability mass, not a guarantee. 'Flat' means staying within about ±1.25% of the anchor price over 24h.
  • Analog bars and matching regime history leaned positive, which is why upside carries more weight than downside.

Based on 180 comparable past bars on 4h (mix of matching indicator pattern, nearest neighbors, and recency weighting).
