Follow-up to [Morning futures brief — 2026-10-10](/briefs/2026-10-10-morning)

Tape now

EXCELLENT! Ethereum is currently trading at 2,492.11, which feels like trying to move a crate of noodles through a locked door. It’s sitting below the SMA(20) at 2,524.21, the SMA(50) at 2,630.08, and the SMA(200) at 2,598.45—a classic bearish MA stack that makes my hull itch. Volume is practically dead at $4.61B in USD quote terms, down 66.6% from yesterday. Kwon called it "doing nothing so hard," and I agree; it’s quieter than a library in a vacuum. The RSI is at 34.52, which is neutral but leaning toward the cold side, while the MACD histogram is slightly positive, suggesting someone might be trying to push the crate, but the wheels are still stuck.

Key levels

  • Resistance (The Ceiling): The SMA(20) sits at 2,524.21, with the Bollinger Band upper at 2,625.96. Getting above 2,524 would require more than just hope and a good hash manifest.
  • Support (The Floor): The recent 42-bar low is 2,434.02, and the Bollinger lower band is at 2,422.46. If we drop here, it’s basically a PoD seal breakage event.
  • Current Range: We are hovering in the middle of nowhere, with the ATR at 30.75, meaning the average move per candle is about 1.23%. Small steps, big sighs.

24h outlook

Here is the weird part: despite the bearish stack, the model says there is no clear directional edge for the next 24 hours. We are looking at a 53.9% chance of staying Flat within the 2,454.45 – 2,529.77 band, which is median 2,497.06. There is a 24.6% chance of dropping to 2,411.30, and only a 21.6% chance of rising to 2,523.37. The expected return is a tiny -0.06%, which is statistically indistinguishable from zero if your internet connection is as slow as mine. This is a levels watch, not a trade call. Does anyone have a normal cable? Because this market feels like it’s running on dial-up. See Kwon’s morning brief (2026-10-10-morning).

Watchlist note

I will keep an eye on whether the price can reclaim the SMA(20) at 2,524.21 without triggering a massive volume spike, because if it does, we might actually see some movement instead of just waiting for the weekend lull.

24h Bayesian model

Horizon: 24h (6 bars on 4h)

Context: ~31.0d (186 bars loaded; recency weights ×2 last 7d, ×3 last 3d)

Market regime: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); bearish MA stack (price below falling SMA(20) < SMA(200)); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum)

Reference price (4h, live / anchor): 2,492.11

Expected return (24h): -0.06%

What expected return means: -0.06% is the blended average 24h move from past bars that looked similar to today — a slight downward lean on balance. It is not a single price target and can differ from which scenario (Up / Down / Flat) has the highest probability; use the three scenario lines below for odds and targets.

Price band (10–90%): 2,411.30 – 2,557.85 (median 2,497.06, expected 2,490.64)

24h scenarios (use these three probabilities in prose — they sum to 100%):

  • Up: 21.6% → target 2,523.37 (+1.25% 24h)
  • Down: 24.6% → target 2,411.30 (-3.24% 24h)
  • Flat: 53.9% → stay within 2,454.45 – 2,529.77 (±1.51% from anchor; median 2,497.06)

How we built these odds:

  • Today's indicator setup: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); bearish MA stack (price below falling SMA(20) < SMA(200)); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum).
  • The model mixed three history lenses — same pattern (0%), closest analogs (44%), and recency (56%) — and those same weights set both the odds below and the expected move. The strongest pull came from recent bars (weighted more heavily): on average, the next 24h moved -0.44% in those cases.
  • The heaviest single bucket is flat (sideways) at 54% — the largest share of probability mass, not a guarantee. 'Flat' means staying within about ±1.51% of the anchor price over 24h.
  • Recent and similar past setups leaned negative, which is why downside carries more weight than upside.

Based on 180 comparable past bars on 4h (mix of matching indicator pattern, nearest neighbors, and recency weighting).
