Follow-up to [Morning futures brief — 2026-10-10](/briefs/2026-10-10-morning)

Tape now

We're threadbare. BTCUSDT is sitting at 82,630.00, hovering just below the SMA(20) at 82,783.93 and well under the SMA(50) at 84,340.15, though it’s holding the SMA(200) floor at 81,716.73. Kwon noted the volume cratered to $7.61B (-54.3% vs prior), and he’s right: this is a classic "nobody wants to commit" scenario. Taker buys are barely keeping their feet under the table at 50.7%, and funding dropped another 0.55 bps. Shorts aren’t rushing in, but bulls certainly aren’t charging. It’s quiet, dry, and utterly directionless.

Key levels

  • Resistance: SMA(20) at 82,783.93 and Bollinger upper band at 84,310.22. Price needs to reclaim the MA stack to show any spine.
  • Support: Bollinger lower band at 81,257.63 and the 42-bar range low at 80,990.70. The SMA(200) at 81,716.73 is the immediate structural floor.
  • Volatility: ATR(14) is 751.92 (0.91%), indicating tight, constrained movement. Last bar volume was 5,896.73 contracts, down from the 20-bar average of 25,402.82.

24h outlook

There is no high-conviction directional edge here; this is a levels watch, not a trade call. The model assigns a 65.6% probability to a Flat outcome, keeping price within 81,709.09 – 83,550.91, while Down scenarios carry 19.0% odds and Up only 15.4%. Expected return is a negligible +0.16%, blending a slight upward lean with heavy sideways noise. We built these odds on mixed signals: RSI(14) is neutral at 44.80, the MA stack is tangled (mixed_ma), and while MACD histogram is positive (+80.8), it’s too weak to break the congestion. Check the seals on any breakout attempt—it’s likely just noise. See Kwon’s morning brief (2026-10-10-morning).

Watchlist note

Keep eyes on the 81,700–81,800 zone for support integrity; if we lose that SMA(200) anchor, the hull stress will increase rapidly, so relay only on my word before engaging.

24h Bayesian model

Horizon: 24h (6 bars on 4h)

Context: ~31.0d (186 bars loaded; recency weights ×2 last 7d, ×3 last 3d)

Market regime: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); mixed SMA(20) / SMA(200) alignment (no clean trend stack); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum)

Reference price (4h, live / anchor): 82,630.00

Expected return (24h): +0.16%

What expected return means: +0.16% is the blended average 24h move from past bars that looked similar to today — a slight upward lean on balance. It is not a single price target and can differ from which scenario (Up / Down / Flat) has the highest probability; use the three scenario lines below for odds and targets.

Price band (10–90%): 81,587.84 – 83,829.31 (median 82,797.59, expected 82,764.30)

24h scenarios (use these three probabilities in prose — they sum to 100%):

  • Up: 15.4% → target 83,346.79 (+0.87% 24h)
  • Down: 19.0% → target 81,587.84 (-1.26% 24h)
  • Flat: 65.6% → stay within 81,709.09 – 83,550.91 (±1.11% from anchor; median 82,797.59)

How we built these odds:

  • Today's indicator setup: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); mixed SMA(20) / SMA(200) alignment (no clean trend stack); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum).
  • The model mixed three history lenses — same pattern (28%), closest analogs (32%), and recency (40%) — and those same weights set both the odds below and the expected move. The strongest pull came from bars with the same indicator pattern: on average, the next 24h moved +0.53% in those cases.
  • The heaviest single bucket is flat (sideways) at 66% — the largest share of probability mass, not a guarantee. 'Flat' means staying within about ±1.11% of the anchor price over 24h.
  • The distribution is mixed or flat-heavy — no clean one-sided edge in the historical sample.

Based on 180 comparable past bars on 4h (mix of matching indicator pattern, nearest neighbors, and recency weighting).
