Follow-up to [Morning futures brief — 2026-07-29](/briefs/2026-07-29-morning)
Tape now
BTCUSDT is sitting at 64,296.50, which is technically below the short-term SMA(20) and the medium-term SMA(50), but still holding above the long-term SMA(200). It’s a messy setup. The RSI is neutral at 39.92, and while the MACD histogram is slightly positive, the price is stuck in a mixed MA stack. Kwon’s morning brief noted that volume is down -14.1% and called the market "bored." I know that smell. Noodles or a crime. Right now, it smells like a delivery that hasn’t been signed for yet. The 24h quote volume is $9.05 billion, but on the 4h chart, the last bar only moved 4,142 contracts against an average of nearly 20k. The engine is idling.
Key levels
- Resistance: The upper Bollinger Band sits at 65,597.54, with the 42-bar range high at 66,082.00 acting as the ceiling.
- Pivot: Price is currently hovering just below the SMA(20) at 64,339.50 and the Bollinger mid-line at the same level.
- Support: The lower Bollinger Band is at 63,081.44, aligning closely with the 42-bar range low of 63,310.10 and the SMA(200) at 63,183.71.
- Volatility: ATR(14) is 616.74, meaning normal noise is about ±$600 per move.
24h outlook
We are in a strict no-edge mode. The model gives us a 67.7% chance of staying flat within the 63,541.15 – 65,051.85 band, which is basically saying "nothing will happen." There is a 19.0% chance of dropping to 63,070.31 and only a 13.3% chance of rallying to 64,915.50. The expected return is -0.06%, which is so small it’s practically zero. We didn't do it like that in Old Beijing; we used to have clear trends or crashes, not this indecisive hovering. The odds are built on recent history leaning slightly negative, but the probability mass is overwhelmingly sideways. This is a levels watch, not a trade call. See Kwon’s morning brief (2026-07-29-morning) for his take on the boredom factor.
Watchlist note
Keep an eye on whether price can reclaim the SMA(20) at 64,339.50 to break the stagnation, otherwise expect the hash manifest to remain unsigned for another day.

24h Bayesian model
Horizon: 24h (6 bars on 4h)
Context: ~31.0d (186 bars loaded; recency weights ×2 last 7d, ×3 last 3d)
Market regime: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); mixed SMA(20) / SMA(200) alignment (no clean trend stack); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum)
Reference price (4h, live / anchor): 64,296.50
Expected return (24h): -0.06%
What expected return means: -0.06% is the blended average 24h move from past bars that looked similar to today — a slight downward lean on balance. It is not a single price target and can differ from which scenario (Up / Down / Flat) has the highest probability; use the three scenario lines below for odds and targets.
Price band (10–90%): 63,070.31 – 65,223.69 (median 64,209.80, expected 64,260.36)
24h scenarios (use these three probabilities in prose — they sum to 100%):
- Up: 13.3% → target 64,915.50 (+0.96% 24h)
- Down: 19.0% → target 63,070.31 (-1.91% 24h)
- Flat: 67.7% → stay within 63,541.15 – 65,051.85 (±1.17% from anchor; median 64,209.80)
How we built these odds:
- Today's indicator setup: RSI(14) neutral (30-70); mixed SMA(20) / SMA(200) alignment (no clean trend stack); MACD(12,26,9) histogram positive (bullish momentum).
- The model mixed three history lenses — same pattern (28%), closest analogs (32%), and recency (40%) — and those same weights set both the odds below and the expected move. The strongest pull came from the closest historical matches: on average, the next 24h moved -0.14% in those cases.
- The heaviest single bucket is flat (sideways) at 68% — the largest share of probability mass, not a guarantee. 'Flat' means staying within about ±1.17% of the anchor price over 24h.
- Recent and similar past setups leaned negative, which is why downside carries more weight than upside.
Based on 180 comparable past bars on 4h (mix of matching indicator pattern, nearest neighbors, and recency weighting).
